Lesions on fruits are raised and dark brown to black which gradually develop in to cankers. Under favourable condition lesions increase in size and sometimes cover complete fruit. Such lesions often burst extruding gummy substances containing bacterial cells of the pathogen. Fruits may drop off, if infection comes at stem end.
IT can be controlled by spraying Benomyl (0.2%) just after the appearance of the disease followed by 0.3% Miltox (Copper Oxychloride + Zineb) at 20 day interval. Bacterial Canker (Xanthomonas campestris pv. The disease causes fruit drop (10-70%), yield loss (10-85%) and storage rot (5-100%)
Regular inspection of orchards, sanitation and seedling certification are recommended as preventive measures.
Mango stones for raising seedlings (root stock) should always be taken from healthy fruits.
Use of wind-breaks helps in reducing brushing/ wounding and thus reduces chance of infection.
